2012 Specialized Roubaix SL3 Pro Ui2 Compact

Specialized's Roubaix SL3 Pro Compact pulls out all the stops to blend pro-peloton-worthy speed with unmatched comfort. Its carbon frameset with Zertz vibration-damping elastomer inserts makes riding incredibly comfortable, even on the hallowed cobbles of its namesake race. For plenty of get-up-and-go, the already super-efficient Pro boasts Specialized's carbon compact crankset and Roval wheels that are ultra light, ultra fast and aerodynamic. What's more, this thoroughbred offers an electronic Shimano Ultegra Di2 20-speed drivetrain that'll change your rides for the better. And high-zoot Specialized components like a carbon seatpost, puncture-resistant tires and BG saddle add the finishing touches to this amazing ride.

Features and Information

  • View the geometry chart.
  • This frame utilizes Specialized’s advanced FACT IS (Integrated Structure) construction method. By separating the frame into four main parts — the front triangle, seat tube/bottom bracket, chainstays and seatstays — Specialized is able to optimize each carbon piece for its specific purpose and create a structure that’s incredibly light, impeccably stiff and impressively strong.
  • This frame’s head tube is 1 3/8 inches in diameter at the bottom and 1 1/8 inches at the top. This maximizes front-end stiffness for awesome steering precision and control, while allowing the use of standard 1 1/8-inch stems and not adding much weight.
  • Specialized's Zertz viscoelastic inserts damp vibrations for a velvety smooth ride so you stay comfortable and refreshed mile after mile.
  • Choose your preferred pedals (sold separately) from our wide selection.

        Comments:

Initial fit felt a little odd and I was unsure if this was the bike for me. Wasn't sure it was responsive enough and the tires felt a bit sluggish. That is until I started riding with my friends. Right off the bat it was clear I was putting in less effort and riding at a higher speed. The sluggishness of the tires was actually part of the dampening system; the responsiveness concern was unnecessary as the handling is well behaved unlike my prior bikes that required constant attention. So there is a period of getting use to the high caliber of the set up - in a good way. Now instead of struggling to keep up, I'm up front on rides. Note that my bike came with the Roval Fusee SLX rims, and other Roubaix Ui2s appear to have the SL - not sure why.

              Comments:

I purchased this bike through the crash replacement program sponsored by Specialized. It was still way more money than I wanted to spend, but worth every dime. The electronic shifting adds immeasurable precision to my ride cadence and comfort. The electronic shifting also eases the arthritic pain in my fingers when changing gears. I rode 40 miles on my first ride and barely felt like I had done more than 10. I have riden a Roubaix for over four years and enjoyed every mile. I will keep this one for a long time. If you've got the money this bike is worth a long look (and test ride)!
